Our villa faces due south. This an ideal location to view the planets and many nebulae. Even with a 10 X 50 pair of binoculars it is possible to have a satisfying evening skywatching. Ideally the binoculars should be mounted on a camera tripod for ease of use and to keep the image steady.
For those that can bring a telescope the area has low air and light pollution, despite Almunecar being close by, compared to most UK locations. This means astro photography can be undertaken with satisfying results.
Paul and Liz Downing have an observatory near to us on the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas and have a Website (www.paulandliz.org) dedicated to Astronomy. There are a number of excellent photographs taken by them in Spain.
